How We Review Persimmon Soaps
What we check, what we don't, and how we try to be fair when we also sell a product in this category.
What we check for every product
- The ingredient list, taken from the brand’s own page or packaging. We look for persimmon tannin (kakishibu, Diospyros kaki) by name, added fragrance or essential oils, and conditioning ingredients like glycerin or shea.
- Price and size, taken from the brand or a major retailer on the date shown on the page. When a brand doesn’t list a size, we say so.
- Origin and guarantee: where the product is made (if stated) and whether a refund requires returning the product.
- What users report: recurring praise and complaints in public reviews and communities. We quote short excerpts with links rather than inventing testimonials.
- The research: peer-reviewed studies where they exist. We clearly label patents, company data and lab-only findings.
What we don’t do
- We don’t run laboratory odor tests. We don’t claim to have measured nonenal on anyone.
- We don’t publish made-up reviews, testers or ratings, and we don’t add star-rating markup to our pages.
- We don’t take payment from the other brands we list, and they don’t see our reviews before publication.
How we handle our own product
We own TanniBar and rank it first. To keep that honest:
- the disclosure appears at the top of every page with a recommendation,
- TanniBar’s weaknesses (for example, that its bar weight isn’t listed) are shown alongside its strengths,
- competitor facts come from their own pages, and we link to them directly without affiliate tags.
If you think we’ve been unfair to any brand, tell us and we’ll look again.
Updates and corrections
Prices and formulas change. We re-check the comparison regularly and update the “prices checked” date when we do. Corrections are made promptly and noted when they change a recommendation.
